  • To use a range of manipulatives to teach number and shape
  • To solve problems using key mathematical resources.
About The Course

Most primary schools are now running a mastery curriculum or a mastery approach at their school. CPA (concrete, pictorial and abstract) is at the heart of current mathematics teaching, making mathematical concepts visual for the children to see and hands on, so that they can deconstruct and reconstruct the mathematical models. In turn, this helps children to understand and make connections.

Teachers need support in how to use these key mathematical resources well. This course seeks to show how you can get the most use out of a few key resources.

Daunting long lists of mastery resources are not necessary, just the skills to use a few resources well.

During the day, delegates will look at the following key resources:

• Two coloured counters • Pattern blocks • Numicon • Place value equipment • Paper based resources such as digit cards

With these resources, teachers will be able to cover a wide range of mathematical concepts.

At the end of the course, delegates will be given a copy of the course materials to take away as either a Dropbox file to download or a memory stick to take away.

Please bring a camera or iPad/tablet to take photographs.
