This one day Inspiring Writing course focuses on Years 1 and 2 and the crucial knowledge and skills children need to develop for writing at this point in their learning. In line with the requirements of the National Curriculum, this course will support teachers to create an environment that encourages a wide range of writing while promoting the progress of children at the early stages of writing.
This course has been specially tailored to the needs of Years 1 and 2 learners by our expert teaching team, and covers the following key areas:
How to choose and use texts to enrich vocabulary and inspire opportunities for writing. How to identify the steps into writing fluency for children and support all children to make progress. How to teach children to use and apply phonics in context of rich and purposeful writing experiences across a range of genres.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will strengthen their knowledge of how to support children at the early stages of writing fluency. Teachers will explore how to develop key knowledge and skills to support children to become confident in both transcriptional and compositional aspects of writing. Teachers will leave this course feeling confident to build children’s skills throughout Year 1 and 2 so they are able to enter KS2 with the techniques to continue to improve and develop their writing.
The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education is a UK based children's literacy charity working with primary schools. Our work raises the achievement of children's reading and writing by helping schools to teach literacy creatively and effectively, putting quality children’s books at the heart of all learning. We offer courses at our literacy library in central London and also deliver training in various regional locations.
